William Spratt Starts 2019 With Another Defense Verdict

In January of 2019 Bill Spratt obtained a defense verdict in Suffolk County in a case where the plaintiff alleged that inappropriate discontinuation of dual antiplatelet therapy led to stent restenosis and ultimately death of the then 54-year-old, whose expert economist testified suffered loss of earnings in the area of $1,200,000.  Mr. Spratt deftly crossed the plaintiff’s well-seasoned cardiology expert on both liability and causation, specifically obtaining concessions that there are different schools of thought on when anticoagulation should be stopped preoperatively, and questioning how death from stent occlusion was possible when no clot was present on autopsy. Ultimately, the jury unanimously agreed with the defense, returning a verdict 45 minutes after they received the case for deliberation.
