Plaintiff’s claim involved allegations of a failure to timely diagnose and treat an aortic dissection resulting in the death of the patient. A 64-year-old man went to a hospital with complaints of abdominal pain and difficulty breathing. His complaints began three days prior, and he was seen at two prior hospitals before coming to this hospital.
The patient arrived at the emergency department in mild-moderate distress. He was observed in the emergency department and underwent imaging tests. However, after the tests began, the patient's condition rapidly worsened. He became pale, sweaty, and struggled to breathe before losing consciousness. Despite immediate life-saving measures, the man could not be revived.
After careful review of the case, the Court granted Brett’s motion for summary judgment on behalf of two doctors and the hospital.
